Momo – London

Going out in London on a pleasant evening was what I was aiming for. We got into a black cab and he drove us to 25 Heddon Street where a Moroccan souk-looking restaurant is located, MOMO.

Without a doubt, the interior was breathtaking. It was like being in an “Alf Leila Wa Leila” palace. The ambiance was soothing. The place was lit with Moroccan brass lanterns only, and contained colorful rugs, wooden screen shutters, low seating, and candlelight. Olives and bread were served right away. For drinks, we had the famous Virgin Momo, their version of a non-alcoholic mojito.

The dishes we tried were exquisite. We had the following:

Wood Pigeon Pastilla: a fine filo pastry filled with sweet and lightly spiced wood pigeon, almonds and cinnamon, served with orange confit. This is one of those great dishes because the flavors are complex! The sweet and savory combo is already delicious, but once you combine the soft, warm inside with a crisp crust, it’s WOW!

Chicken Tagine with preserved lemons, olives, onion compote and saffron. The flavors in the chicken were wonderful; it was very moist and tender. If you like olives and lemon, this is it!

Couscous Momo served with lamb shank, grilled lamb skewers, and merguez. It was TRULY LAMBTASTIC! that’s all I could really say.

It is also a must that you end the meal with delightful traditional pastries and refreshing mint tea, which is poured theatrically from a great height. It was a magical evening! The service was impeccable, the food was wonderful, the music was great, and all this added up to £125.00.

We really enjoyed our night at Momo. We sure will be heading back real soon!
