Maki – Kuwait

Maki :a Kuwaiti legend, a “Japanese” restaurant that dazzled Kuwaiti taste buds. Maki invented a handful of new recipes to cater to our community’s picky taste. They gave sushi roles a twist with their “special sauce”, seasoned nigiri (J-Lo, salmon and yellow tail tuna with sauce and chives) and introduced the rice wrap instead of seaweed to wrap the roles. Maki provides a vast amount of roles, some of which have “raw” seafood and some accommodate their picky Kuwaiti customers, with cooked fish and tempura in them.

They also sparkled edemami, and added their special sauce to it, the appetizer is called, “Spicy Edemami”. Though the sauce is thick, and will mess up your fingers, it is worth the mess!  Our favorite special roles are Essa maki and Wazzani II. Marina salad is our desired choice of salad, for its marvelous dressing and representation; it comes on top of a fish bowl with 2 goldfish swimming in it, alive and everything! The zesty edemami salad has pears cut up into a fusion of crabmeat, edemami and special sauce.

The quality and freshness is the foundation of its success, serving people good food, will make them go to the edge to have it. Maki proved this, since their first branch was a small one, in Salmiya. Its size didn’t do justice to its popularity. Though they’ve opened three other branches, we at kuweat, prefer the miniature Salmiya branch, so do a lot of Maki’s loyal fans. The branch is more content, and some do argue that the food is actually better.

Finally, we would like to praise them for Hamour tepenyaki, well seasoned with garlic and grilled to perfection with a side of veggies. A perfect meal ; choices of different branches, catering to different moods, and “kuweati” satisfaction. Hats off to Maki.
