202 – London

Friday, July 23rd, 2010. Filed under: Cafes & Bakeries

Waking up in London on a breezy sunny morning is what everyone dreams of, especially when you have breakfast plans with a special someone. Two ladies got into a black cab and headed for Notting Hill’s famous Westbourne Grove.

Westbourne Grove is at the heart of London’s Notting Hill and just two minutes from the famous Portobello Road. Westbourne Grove has always been a fashionable district featuring designer fashion boutiques, luxury brand flagship stores, with collections ranging from shoes to luggage and from maternity apparel to children’s wear, and jewelry. Among these amazing stores, is British designer Nicole Farhi’s empire, 202.

202 is part café part store. It is a place where you can buy just about anything from clothes to furniture to tableware, and then grab breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner.

202 is a new concept store from Nicole Farhi, ranging over two floors in what used to be a pub. It’s very hard to tell what is for sale and what can be eaten. The store is full of things that don’t look expensive but are. And the café, taking up half the ground floor, is full of food that looks expensive, but isn’t. Open for breakfast and brunch only, 202 is the sort of place Notting Hill locals like to treat themselves with each morning to start a fresh new day.

It is a must to start your breakfast with their freshly brewed coffee. Everything on their menu is great. From the fluffy crisp French toast to the scrambled eggs with mushrooms on toast to the cheesy eggs Florentine served on toasted bagels, it’s all what you need to start your morning. If you’re not in the mood for eggs, why not have some of their buttery croissant or amazing baguettes with strawberry preserve. If you are there for lunch, it is important that you order their famous fish and chips with fat potatoes and mashed peas. The Haddock is battered and deep-fried to perfection, giving you an amazing golden- like color on the fish.

With most starters at about £8 and most mains at about £12, it’s well priced for such a fashionable district. The food is fantastic, the staff friendly and the wait isn’t too long. Great for brunching and lunching! Definitely worth visiting more than once.
